Stabilnost procesa ima jedan od značajnijih uticaja na kvalitet proizvoda. Ocjena u kojoj mjeri je proces stabilan može se donijeti uz praćenje procesa korištenjem kontrolnih karti. Veoma je bitan vremenski period u kojem se određuje stabilnost procesa. Podaci relevantni za proračun indeksa sistema procesa: Cp,Cpk, su samo oni koji su dobijeni iz procesa koji je u ravnoteži.
