U mjeriteljstvu imamo potrebu za ostvarivanjem adekvatne slijedivosti mjernog rezultata, ali se susrećemo sa problemom nedostatka razvijene mjeriteljske infrastrukture. U Bosni i Hercegovini u oblasti zakonskog mjeriteljstva trenutno se nalazi 22 oblasti mjeriteljstva sa više od 50 različitih mjernih instrumenata. Neke od mjeriteljskih oblasti zakonskog mjeriteljstva su veoma dobro pokrivene sa većim brojem mjeriteljskih laboratorija koje za predmetnu oblast mogu pružiti adekvatnu uslugu, međutim u nekim oblastima ne postoji niti jedna uspostavljena laboratorija. U slučaju kada u Bosni i Hercegovini nema odgovarajućih laboratorija koje pružaju usluge verifikacije, moguće je uzeti u obzir rezultate mjerenja koje pruža mjeriteljska laboratorija putem usluge kalibracije, što predstavlja postupak mjerenja koji je veoma sličan verifikaciji, ali sa određenim razlikama u izvođenju mjerenja i izvještavanju mjernog rezultata.
